I Am Not
Imagine being told your whole life who you are by the outside world, given no opportunity to decide for yourself who you could become. The store attendant keeps eyes on you from the time you walk in the store, the couple walking on the sidewalk crosses the street, you are written off as “unteachable” in school, you fit a police description, your neighborhood is neglected by the very organization tasked with maintaining it, your value is tied to your athletic ability, you would rather live on aid than get a real job, a past mistake keeps you from bettering your future, you are the focus of the “service project” and make for a great Instagram post.
These examples and so many more are the inspiration behind the I Am Not collection, breaking down those stereotypes and expectations, empowering people to live free of labels and discover their true self. Created by a black artist, photographed by a black photographer, a calling for ALL.
